YouTube - How to format your Word document in APA style.

Using the information you were given in the video, edit the format of a Word document or Google Doc so that it conforms to APA style.  Note, though our software has been updated since this video was made, the APA requirements have not changed. If you can’t figure out how to change a settings in Word or in a Google Doc, please ask for assistance.

Have a friend check your work.

If you are not confident that you have formatted your Word document or Google Doc correctly, ask the Teacher-Librarian to check your work before going on the next step.

Once your document is formatted correctly go on to the next step.

Step 2: How to Create References entries for an APA Essay

(15 minutes)

Watch the APA References Entries Video (4:52).

One of the best tools we've found to help students with their citations is: citefast.com

It is easy to use, free to sign-up for, and funded by minimalist-style ad placement.  What we like most about citefast.com is that everything is done on a single webpage; there's no clicking from page to page to put in your various texts.

  • Using either a website address or a book ISBN number is easiest.

  • It is important to make sure that you have selected the APA7 button at the top to make sure you are citing in the most recent style of the APA.

  • Once you search for a particular title, Citefast will prompt you to double-check the information in their database and correct it, if necessary.
    DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!
It is your responsibility, not Citefast's, to ensure that all citation information is correct.

  • If you are confident that everything is correct, click the green button along the bottom labeled "Save Citation".

  • After a moment of processing, the citation will appear, in proper alphabetical order in the column on the right.

  • Continue to add your sources in this manner, until your References list is complete.

  • Now click the "Copy and Paste" button, the "Select All" button, and they copy-and-paste the text to your Word document or Google doc.

It's super easy!

Any unusual source that citefast.com can't search or process, should be covered in the Peel SourceIt Guide. Just make certain you are looking up entries in the APA column.

If you can not find a quick guide to citing a source that you are using in your research, please ask your Teacher-Librarian for assistance.

Step 3: How to Create Embedded Citations in an APA Essay

(10 minutes)

Watch the  APA Embedded Citations Video (4:22).

Correct use of embedded citation is just as important as a properly formatted References page.  Double-check that you are using both properly before you submit your assignment to your teacher.
